During a chaotic attempt to help the citizens escape, the governor of the city's toddler son, , accidentally ends up with the resistance. The Fire Nation governor assumes the Avatar has kidnapped his son and offers a trade: the boy for King Bumi .

Aang realizes Bumi is right and lets him go back into captivity. The team manages to return Tom-Tom to his parents safely, proving they aren't the kidnappers the Fire Nation claimed. As they fly away on Appa, Aang is saddened to leave his old friend behind but is motivated by a new goal: finding the teacher Bumi described. [S2E3] Return to Omashu
