The film follows , a "plump" and neglected housewife living in a loveless common-law marriage with a tyrannical librarian, Koichi. Her life is upended when a burglar named Hiraoka breaks into her home while her husband is away and rapes her. Rather than becoming a typical victim of melodrama, Sadako undergoes a complex psychological transformation. Hiraoka becomes obsessed with her, attempting to force her to run away with him, while Sadako harbors "murderous intentions" toward her attacker.
