Sparrow was a ruthless bounty hunter who had concocted a brilliant, diabolical scheme. He didn't want Sabata to hang for a mere $500 reward. By helping Sabata escape and making him a fugitive, Sparrow intended to systematically murder the very witnesses who had lied at the trial. Sabata was done with the gunfighter life. He bought a modest ranch in Texas from a man named Jim Sparrow, wanting nothing more than to raise cattle and live in peace. But the land was arid, and Sparrow was a man consumed by greed.

Sabata soon learned that his "mysterious savior" was none other than the killer himself, Jim Sparrow.
